Toyota is a little anal about DIYWell today was a perfect day for changing out my diff and tranny fluid to Mobil 1 Syn. Well after about 2 weeks of getting all my tools together from different places. My family and I are in the real estate business, so we have a lot of project houses that we flip. Well I move around a lot especially in the summer so all of my crap is all over the nation. I just got my new house at Auburn so I collected all of my crap and finally moved everything in.
Well I go to the Advanced Autoparts and buy me 4 quarts of ATF and 4 quarts of 80w90 along with the two oil spill pans hand pumps, etc. I finally get the truck on the ramps and am using my laptop for diagnostics (Scanguage to read the temp), and the damn power goes out which kills my internet. (Fudge!) So I take my truck off the ramps and had to wait until the power company comes (the circuit breaker broke yesterday so they did a temp fix last night). They could have warned us about the power outage today. Well I go back out to run some errands come back power is on. Put the truck on the ramps wait for temp.... I finally get under the car and check to make sure I have all the right tools and extensions needed. Well I look where the tranny fill bolt is. WTF is that?! It looks like a sun fish. Uhh shit. There is also a warrenty sticker on it. Oh crap. Well I ask a friend and he says toyota just did that because I have the tow package to make sure that no Do it your selfer and crappy auto shop fucks up the tranny, or puts the wrong fluid in it so when I am towing all the extra stress and wrong fluid seizes it, toyota doesn't have to pay for it. So the end of the story is that all of the work and miles I did to collect my tools goes to waste because toyota only wants their mechanics to change something as simple as the ATF. Gay..... On the bright side I didn't drain the fluid first before checking the fill bolt. Holy crap that would have been real bad. Last edited by RememberMorrison; 05-22-2008 at 12:13 AM. |

Toyota isn't the only one. My wife's Olds Alero has no dipstick on the transmission to check the level. You have to get the car in the air, and pull the plug on the side of the transmission to check the level.
