Synthetic Switch?

I just bought an 08 Tacoma, it now has 700 miles on it.

Should I switch all the fluids to syn or wait? I am talking everything! Tranny, Diff, Engine, etc....

They say it's generally a good idea to run 3-5000 first with convention oil as it allows break-in better than synthetic. But, then again they say there's little need for break-in these days...

Yes I have heard that the engine is practically already broken in from the factory, but then again why do cars get faster as the get more miles (to a point of course)?

One gear head recommends changing to syn after 100 miles!!! Then changing the oil every 6,000 with a new filter.

I really want to change my tranny oil and diff oil to syn, but it is expensive and I am not sure what kind of ATF fluid I can put in. I am waiting for an answer on Tacomaworld.com

Toyota says only use Toyota Genuine ATF WS fluid.

I would stick with conventional til at leas 3-5k like the md said. Most of the production engines are run they are mechanicly turned over before final assembly by a robotic machine. Break in is always a debate but I don't switch my new cars over until at least 5k. Diff fluid can be changed now as well as the tranny fluid, no need to wait on those.

Do you know what kind of fluid I should put in?

I need 3 quarts 80w90 for my rear diff.

And 3.2 quarts for the atf. Toyota says use WS.

For the diff I would use Royal Purple Max Gear 75w90

For the tranny what is WS? Does the fluid call for ATF or dextron/mercon?

Royal Purple makes a Max ATF, that should be what you need.

That just means toyota wants you to buy it from them instead of the auto parts store.

Yea basically. Unfortunately auto manufacturers are making it so you have to, or think you have to get service/parts from the dealer only. Thats fine if you have the money to waste but most people don't. I happen to know for a fact that the mark up on parts at BMW of Seattle and Mercedes-Benz is 40-45%. As if spending tons of your money for a vehicle that'll only last ten years isn't bad enough...
