might be relocatingi had a job interview this past thursday up in DC. it's for a position with another government contractor. it's kind of the same field i'm in now, but a little different. it's more of a management/ supervisory position. it pays a lot better, and it puts me a step closer to the place i want to work at ultimately. the position description reads a little like Greek to people who don't understand the techno-babble, but in short, it's a Systems Engineer/ Program Analyst working with Naval Sea Systems Command in support of the Navy's Deep Submergence Program/ SOF Program. it's a program i'm really interested in. the recruiter found my resume on careerbuilder.com and gave me a call completely out of the blue. so the interview went great, and he wants to set up a second interview so i can meet some of the NAVSEA guys they work closely with. hopefully this all works out. i'm pretty psyched about it. any input from you DC area guys will be appreciated, as far as housing, cost of living, etc...

Sounds pretty greek to me. I love DC, my cousins are from that area, but are rich bitches. Their dad, my uncle is a Neurosurgeon. So I am not sure about the average man's living expenses.
DC is a cool area, lots of flavor there, good restaurants too. I love how the city is laid out, but be warned it gets hot as FUCK there in the summer. If you are a family man there are awesome schools in the area as well. |

DC was great when I was there (92-95) working in the Pentagon. Cost of living was up there all right but nothing like in other big cities (or over here for that matter).

I did government IT contracting work up in DC for a few years and it blows... the cost of living compared to the beach is insane. Talk about renting a 1 bedroom apartment in the hood for over 1k per month. Most of the people I know drive in from Maryland. Suprised you couldn't find any jobs around here or even in the Richmond area? Did you upload your resume in any of the local recruiter places like;
teksystems, technisource, modis, robert half technology, spreherion. let them work to find you a job... |
