New ZR1 Shatters Z06’s Nurburgring Lap Times
When the Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06 went into production in the latter half of 2005, critics everywhere gawked at the unbelievably fast lap times it posted around Germany’s world known track, the Nurburgring. Beating cars more than 5 times it’s own price tag, the C6 Z06 lapped the Nurburgring in just 7:42.99. With a retail price of $70,000, it’s no secret that this car was the best money could buy.
All of that is in the past though, and Chevrolet is ready for a new challenge. If you thought Chevy was going to cease production of it’s fast, sporty models of their line to focus more towards fuel economy like most manufacturers, you were wrong. Coming out in 2009 is the all-new Corvette ZR1, and we all know better than to have low expectations for this car.
Just this past Saturday, while driving the Corvette ZR1, in completely stock form, including the tires, Jim Mero, GM’s development engineer, achieved an outstanding lap time of 7:26.4 on the Nurburgring. It looks like the new Nissan GT-R may not be as much of a threat to the ZR1 as people originally thought it would be.

Ron, what a moron you are. That Piece of shit just smoked everything currently produced in stock trim, that includes everything from europe, everything, what a piece of shit. Please Ron, take your Mustang, Acura or whatever other piece of shit you currently drive, over a cliff. What a ignorant, stupid comment. Nice one dick.

Ron, that is a typical response for a true idiot.
Brand haters are morons.

The Porsche 997 GT2 smokes everything! Now there’s a supercar that can work on the track AND road. That’s something the Chev will never be. That’s the most important thing because the road is where you will spend most of your time… hating your Chev and wishing you’ve rather bought a GT2 instead. And check JD Power for GM’s poor build quality while the GT2 just won an engine of the year award. If you disagree, go and test drive both. And so by the way, the GT2 just did a 7:25…

so, Arno, mind if I ask who told you the ZR1 is a bad car for the road? Many critics, journalists, and race car drivers have pointed out the fact that the ZR1 is just as good on the road as it is on the track, and we all know how well the ZR1 does on the track.

Arno, Porsches are great cars but give the ZR1 its due. The GT2 time you posted is incorrect and the actual time is 7:32:02 as you can see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordschleife_fastest_lap_times
All you Chevy (brand) haters need to get away from your computers and go outside and get a life (in your Hondas, Toyotas or whatever you drive). Give the cars and their manufacturers the credit they deserve. All car enthusiasts benefit from a car like the ZR1, the GT2, the GTR, etc.
