BMW Celebrates 30 Years With Debut Of M1 Homage

BMW M1 Homage Concept

BMW is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the famed BMW M1. They are celebrating the new birthday in the way that we all love – with a new concept car which has been dubbed the M1 Homage. They recently debuted the new concept at the 2008 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Lake Como, Italy.

“For BMW, heritage is always also a living heritage,” said BMW Group Board Member for Development – Dr. Klaus Draeger. “Drawing inspiration from your own past and thereby reinventing yourself – that is exactly what the BMW M1 Homage demonstrates in impressive style.”

BMW was true to its word and used the Homage to pay tribute to both the BMW Turbo and the M1 and it shows in the design. It has been painted using a black paint scheme and Liquid Orange. It comes equipped with rear louvres, twin rear logos, and hood air vents. The dimensions of the concept are similar to that of the M1 except that it has been given a longer wheelbase and if you look closely enough you can recognize the familiar squat kidney grille that has become a trademark.

We were disappointed not to receive any details of what the interior might look like or what type of engine it uses. We naturally assume that it would use a small displacement turbocharged V-6 or a cleaner diesel.

As for production plans BMW has stated that they have “no official plans for production”. However, we have also heard rumors that BMW has been planning on making a comeback to the Midship engine market for supercars. This would be the best car to start off with if this rumor turns out to be true.

Wow that looks nothing like a BMW other than the front a little bit. I don’t think BMW should have any interest in a car like this, it’ll detract from what it’s good at and known for – reliable, sporty and luxurious cars. Not high end exotics.

    Looks like an alfa

Looks like 3DS Max if you ask me.

  4. Bad82 Says:

Its awesome This is the perfect M1 Car

  5. AlfaGTV Says:

It’s certainly not 3dsmax, the M1 is a concept. The car they showed at Villa d’Este did not have an engine or interior. It was just a full scale model of the M1 concept to celebrate the 3th anniversary.

  6. William Swavely Says:

From the side and Rear it looks awesome, but the front look needs some more thought. I agree that BMW should stick to the areas of the market they are already catering to, but I believe some well-to-doers will definately give it a try if they decide to go for it.

Im assuming those who DONT like the new M1 are in there 90’s and still enjoy watching B&W tube TV’s.. Please get out of there old fashion state of mind, the world is round my friends and turning..and that means progress and change.. BMW really NEED a car thats FUN EXCITING and SEXY…not to mention very very FAST!… I may not be able to afford it but I’ve own 4 BMW’s already. I enjoy bragging on how great of a car BMW really is to all my Benz n lex ( whatever they’re driving)fans. Point blank,if its Not a BMW..it not a real car.

  8. Jason Says:

I agree, this is a great car concept. And I’ve always loved BMW.

I’m only 17 years old, but my brother-in-law got me into BMW; he has a 1986 M6 he races.

Although I do disagree with “Point blank, if it’s not a BMW…it’s not a real car.”

Say that to the Evo that passes you on the track, or the Lotus that speeds past.

It’s very biased to say that all cars that aren’t BMW aren’t real cars.

  9. HF Whyte Says:

Your right Jason… there are other car out that is of good quality and make..BMW for me is my 1st choice, thats all I ment by my statement… I hope no one else will be offended..
